Land Users Engagement

Land Users Engagement

The people who would feel the biggest impacts are the ones who use the land. They are key stakeholders, and are engaged through a clear, three-step process.

A three-step process

How land users are engaged

  1. Inform

Provide information on the wind power study.

  2. Collect

Collect information on land-use areas, documenting concerns and answering questions.

  3. Validate

Validate the gathered information and share updates.

A constant, local presence

To interface with land users and community members, two local Cree liaisons cover the territory — one for the Coastal communities and one for the Inland communities. Participation is voluntary at every step: tallymen and land users can choose not to take part, or to stop, at any time.

The local liaison's role

  • Develop a detailed understanding of wind energy
  • Inform community members and leadership
  • Co-ordinate engagement
  • Represent the community at regional discussions
  • Review study reports
  • Develop and implement communication tools
